Chemical Operator

This position is responsible for safe handling, manufacturing and packaging of specialty chemicals.?The Chemical Operator will be responsible for many functions within the operations group that support the overall manufacturing of specialty chemicals.?


Two years? post high school education OR High school??diploma/general education
degree (GED) plus 5 years? experience working in?processing or general batching?

Key Responsibilities:
Class requirement: ?C, C+, B, A
Filling drums and totes and labeling correctly.
Using company computer system, print out batch sheets, packaging sheets, and enter post ?production (both batches and packaging).
Transportation of materials using fork lift truck and other material handling equipment.?
Cleaning and performing basic maintenance on all production equipment.
Transfer materials via pipeline and hoses without spills, releases or injuries
Sampling materials as trained.
Maintaining good housekeeping and Lean Manufacturing standards in work areas.
Operation of flaking equipment.
Following all policies and procedures of Solvay.
Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP?s) without deviation.
Tracking and reporting performance (Safety, Quality, Productivity).
Identifies maintenance issues and write work orders as needed in company computer system.
Handles all materials safely and according to plant procedures or?approved MOC?(Management Of Change) requests and ensures:
?-Proper personal protective equipment is being worn
?-Safe guards are kept in place and used
Offer recommendations for improvement of safety, product quality, productivity, procedures and facilities.
Completes other duties as assigned.

Loading and Unloading railroad cars and trucks safely and accurately.

Control heated reaction vessels or mix tanks manually or via the automated system to process liquids and solid materials into specified chemical products.
Efficiently charges chemical reaction/blend vessels.?
Ensures process equipment such as vacuum pumps, hot oil systems, condensers, receivers, etc are set up or operated per the equipment instructions to ensure product quality is maintained.
Efficiently operates reaction and blend vessels while adhering to all Solvay policies, procedures and batch instructions.
Uses automated controls on the?DCS?system to charge specified quantities of liquid materials into the reaction vessel or mix tank according to the batch instructions.
Manually charges specified quantities of liquid or solid materials into the reaction vessel or mix tank according to the batch instructions.
Observes manual gauges and automated control systems and adjusts valves as needed to control and maintain temperature, pressure, and speed of the reaction in the reaction vessels or mix tanks.
Samples the product in the reaction vessel or mix tank as prescribed in the batch instructions for analysis.
Follow manufacturing procedures and understand reactions in all reactors outside of the Reactor Room.

Successful completion of the Solvay, University Park Chemical Operator
Competency list including any hands-on skill tests.
Must be able to calculate volumes, weights, and measures.
Must be able to read and understand safety rules, company policies and
Procedure manuals.
Must be able to read and interpret a variety of diagrams, blueprints, and
operational manuals.
Must be able to document activities such as work completed or inspection
observations on forms or work orders using legible handwriting and
understandable verbiage.
Must understand and comply with all Solvay Life Saving Rules??and be able to
perform all functions required for permitting.
Understand when and how to report incidents/accidents.
Must be able to read/understand Piping and Instrumentation Drawings in order
to identify flows and equipment.
Must be able to utilize internal computer systems including Distributed Control
Systems (DCS).

Chemical Operator is required to qualify at their training level at minimum every
three years.

Issue general safe work, LO/TO and all other work permits?as trained.
Generator and handler of hazardous and universal waste?responsible for
container labeling and marking and may collect samples to assist with
characterization of waste.
Ensures that their work area is kept clean at all times.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
