Sr HR Administrator


Summary of Position

Federal Signal has an immediate opening for a Sr HR Administrator based at our University Park, Illinois facility. This position will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Human Resources Department. Duties to include processing leave administration for FMLA, short-term disability and workers compensation, along with being the resident benefits expert.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage data entry into HRIS system by ensuring that all approvals have been obtained and proper documentation is supplied to support record change.
  • Partner with 3rd party administrator in the management of FMLA / Short Term Disability / Work Comp administration. Ensure Kronos timekeeping system is updated for employees out on leave.
  • Assist employees with benefits enrollment and benefit related questions. Escalate as appropriate to the Corporate benefits team.
  • Support the recruitment process by reviewing and screening resumes for hiring manager review. Coordinate phone interviews and on-site interviews with candidates, which may include the arrangement of travel. Process invoices and POs for temp agencies.
  • Administer on-boarding process: Manage pre-employment testing (background checks / work well process / drug screens); Send manager on-boarding checklist and new hire packets; and schedule and conduct orientation.
  • Manage the termination process including, but not limited to, conducting exit interviews, completing termination checklist and processing unemployment claims.
  • Support HR with various HR functions and/or projects such as performance reviews, wage surveys, investigations, incentives, etc.
  • Responsible for employee file maintenance and management.
  • Understand and be able to interpret HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintain HR communication boards within facility, including posting new policies, internal job postings, organizational announcements, etc.
  • Coordinate employee engagement events at facility by partnering with management team. Participate as a key member in the facility wellness committee.
  • Liaison with vendor and payroll on company store purchases and management.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resource Management or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in HR, preferably in a manufacturing/union environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills;
  • Ability to effectively multitask on competing priorities;
  • Ability to apply sound reasoning and judgement;
  • Ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivity;
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and high motivation;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in an ever changing fast paced environment.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
