Risk & Compliance Specialist - (University Park, IL)

JOB SUMMARY:
The Risk and Compliance Specialist is responsible for the prompt and efficient examination, investigation and will recommend settlement or declination of workers compensation insurance claims through effective research, negotiation and interaction with insures and claimants, ensuring that company resources are utilized in a cost-effective manner in the process. Specifically, this position will handle workers comp claims for multiple states. Ensures safe work practices are adhered to as we strive to meet our corporate goal of zero injuries.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Review and manage all incident reports for employee incidents from initial report through conclusion/closure of claim.
Manage claims database.
Determine need to report claims to Insurance Carrier for handling.
Communicate directly with employees, medical providers, and insurance representatives in a professional and courteous manner while explaining the claim process.
Provide direction and management to third party administrators to facilitate resolving all claims quickly and cost effectively.
Manage external attorneys on litigated matters.
Distribution of weekly and monthly claim/metric reports to Management providing claim statistics and results.
Communicate effectively with Management, Administrators, Department Managers, Claim Adjusters, etc. regarding claims activity and process.
Participate actively in various risk management meetings.
Train employees and Managers on the internal claim reporting process.
Provide additional support in assessing areas to address relative to Safety Training and Loss Control.
Develop Webinars on claims process as well as safety topics.
Conduct monthly safety training and provide input on safety issues/concerns.
Provide coaching, guidance and training to field teams and fixed locations in Midwest regions and to assist in other regions as needed.
Conduct unit and site assessments/audits to provide feedback on potential risks and corrective coaching.
Educate operations management on OSHA regulatory compliance.
Communicate Safety successes, near miss details and trend analysis findings to senior leaders.
Conduct safety training classes for new employees and safety committees.
Participate and lead special project assignments.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
Ability to walk for prolonged periods of time on uneven surfaces such as railroad track areas, rough surface jobsites, etc.
Ability to conduct repetitive motions in an office environment such as sitting, typing, computer use, etc.
Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and on and off heavy trucks and equipment.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and otherwise get around indoor, outdoor, railroad track, and other general work areas and equipment.
Vision must be sufficient for driving and for conducting safety audits and inspections.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Exposure to outdoor conditions, including inclement weather, when conducting site visits/audits/training, etc.
Exposure to dust/fumes/mist, grinding particles, smoke, and particulates consistent with welding, grinding, and heavy industrial work.
Ability to travel up to 40% via rail, automobile and airplane
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Degree in Safety or equivalent curriculum.
Minimum of 1-5 years of professional Safety experience in an industrial setting, preferably railroad or construction.
Successful experience in developing and delivering safety training in group settings.
Proven knowledge of accident investigation fundamentals.
Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft suite of products, most notably Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to take and pass all pre-employment testing required

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
